The FPSN.NET Development Ruckus Tool Kit system is a general-purpose scripting language that is based on the Perl programming language. RTK is especially suited for Web development, and can be embedded into HTML.
The Ruckus Tool Kit system provides some major advantages over traditional development engines such as HTML::Mason and PHP as follows:
- Because the Ruckus Tool Kit engine it self has been developed in the Perl programming language, it is portable to any operating system that can support perl (you're not locked into using only MS Windows, or Linux).
- Web pages can be developed using three different methods; (1) Traditional CGI; (2) Using the Ruckus Template Engine technology (HTML embedded code); or (3) Using the Ruckus Tool Kit modular system
- Web Pages can directly link existing perl modules such as the modules avaliable from CPAN.
- Web Pages can directly link existing legacy C libraries for faster response times during critical operations
- Transparent user management and security features are available as a default during installation.
- User authorization can utilize any of several differnt standardized authentication schema's such as: Kerberos 5, Microsoft Domain, MySQL, PAM, Standard UNIX passwd file, POP3, Radius, Remote Secure Command, TACACS+, and LDAP
- Existing Perl based CGI applications can be quickly ported over to RTE or RTK
- RTE code pages, and RTK modules, are web-server independent. This means that you do not need compile special hacks or use a small, select group of supported web-server packages.
- Ruckus Tool Kit can take advantage of optimization systems such as SpeedyCGI, and mod_perl, as well as several others.
